SITUATION
Vice President agreed to a tape a public service announcement on the spur of the moment.
COMPLICATION
The White House speechwriters had made a mistake in the script. I was notified only two hours before the taping began.
ACTION
Corrected mistakes in the speech with Vice President, wrote the script on cue cards — on the floor of his office — and coordinated with television film crew.
RESULTS
The public service agreement took a minimum of Vice President's time and created goodwill with millions of voters who viewed the announcement.
